Project
engineer: Developed analog computation
system to simulate aircraft flight and tracking characteristics of fire control tracking radar.
Developed video mapping display system.
Worked on development of of MSQ-1A and MPS-9 radar systems.
Canoga Electronics Corp., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., 1956 – 1962
Chief Engineer: Florida Division, Directed analysis of Eglin Air Force Base’s
NIKE radar.
Directed development of MPQ-31 radar system.
Designed 32,000 mile digital radar range system under contract to Sperry Corp.
Metric Systems Corp., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., 1962 – 1966
Vice President and Chief Engineer: Directed all engineering activities,
Developed Metric’s radar system under a Canadian contract for use at
Fort Churchill to track high altitude rockets used for upper atmosphere studies.
Metric Systems Corp. was founded in 1962 by W. Gamel and myself .
Raytheon Corporation, Wayland MA, 1967 -- 1991 Principal Engineer
Directed development of a “backtracking” radar which, within seconds of a
launch of enemy rocket or mortar fire pinpoints the location of the source.
Worked on Patriot Radar System.
Developed simulation software for studying radar performance before
construction.
Motorola Corporation, Phoenix, Az -- 1992 Consultant
Developed computer simulations for finding optimum cell configurations for
Motorola’s Iridium satellite communication system. A cell is the geographic
region covered by one of many communication beams for communicating with
users on the ground.

AUTOSTEREOSCOPIC DISPLAY SYSTEM US Patent no. 8587641 issued to Alexander Roth, filed dec. 8, 2011
PROJECT CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS (Dec. 2017)
For details, see article in Stereo World magazine (May/June 2014) at:
At the present time, plans are in
place to construct a small demonstration model, equivalent to a 12 inch TV, to
prove the dynamic backlight display concept described in the patent.

THE SMART ALEX PROJECT (Pixtures below by Shari )
The outstanding feature of the “Teaching Computer” was the use of a real human voice with interactivity plus a comprehensive list of reading topics. The “real voice” feature was due to some tricky programming and cassette tape preparation which made it seem that the voice comments were appropriately responding to the user’s keyboard inputs.

TTIPS -- TICKER TAPE INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM
METRIC SYSTEMS
CORPORATION, Fort Walton Beach , Fla.
As chief engineer and VP of Metric Systems, I spent the
1965/66 winter at Fort Churchill ,
Manitoba , Canada
running tests, on my project, on our modified SCR584 RADAR which was designed
for tracking rockets to be launched there for upper atmospheric research
Metric Systems Corp. was founded in 1962 by
Wendell Gamel and myself .
RAYTHEON CORPORATION
Raytheon Corporation, Wayland MA, 1967 --
1991 Principal Engineer
Directed
development of a “backtracking” radar which, within seconds of a launch of enemy rocket or mortar fire pinpoints the location of the source.
Worked on Patriot Radar System.
Developed simulation software for predicting radar performance.
MOTOROLA After
retiring in 1992 I was a consultant to Motorola in Phoenix for a one year study and design of
the cells for the Iridium world wide satellite cell phone network. I
spent several weeks in Phoenix
on this plus the rest of my time at home completing this project. Once again, it involved computer modeling of the
“cells” for a world-wide telephone system ---
the Iridium global telephone. If
you’re ever at some distant isolated place on our planet, dependent on you
Iridium phone, you may be establishing
contact thanks to me.

ELECTRONIC MUSICAL INSTRUMENT RADIO ELECTRONICS MAY 1951
page 49OPTICAL WALKING AID FOR THE BLIND
A device such as this might be
considered too crude an approach to guide a blind person, but, on the other
hand, I know of nothing else that can do that that’s come into common
usage. Just as a cane lets the user know
when the tip touches the ground, this device does the same with the tip of a
light beam.
This idea was tested on a
small scale at home. It had the
transmitter, transponder and a readout.
The transponder was moved around the house on the same wheeled teacart. The readout actually kept track of the
movements of the cart
